Moore Accusations Could Serve GOP

December 8, 2017 by dave@davidalpha.net

In a political sea overflowing with often phony red herrings, the sexual abuse accusations against Alabama U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore could actually make his party look less unacceptable than it already is.

With mounting and seemingly credible accusations of offenses worthy of lengthy prison terms were they not past statutes of limitations, accusations that are rightly leading to widespread calls for Moore’s ouster from the ticket, even the GOP’s congressional hard right guard has pulled its support from the former judge and prosecutor.… Continue reading

Time to Register Politidupes

December 8, 2017 by dave@davidalpha.net

When do we start the registration? When do we demand that all politidupes must register themselves in a national database? Would it be discrimination? Naw, purely an act of effeciency aimed at preservation of all the people who inhabit this planet, especially the ones who have brains and prefer to actually use them.… Continue reading

Raiders’ Inept Plan Incomplete

March 28, 2017 by dave@davidalpha.net

The news that NFL owners approved relocation of the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas is no surprise, but the ineptitude of the plan is.

Just ask the 1996 Houston Oilers.  Cities (and fans) don’t like being used, and there’s no reason to believe that Oakland will be any different.… Continue reading

No Such Thing as Fake Insurrection

February 17, 2017 by dave@davidalpha.net

Insurrection is a word America might soon know all too well.  No doubt a few people clinging wantonly to their deepening denial will want to put an adjective in front of it.  It won’t work.  Some things are serious enough to command reality, and some realities are powerful enough to claw open the iron-caged faces of even the most profoundly resistant.… Continue reading

Glass Towers, Mr. Trump

February 1, 2017 by dave@davidalpha.net

“What are you looking at?” a man asked his breakfast companion, who was transfixed by his cell phone.

“Just seeing what kind of chaos he’s causing today,” came the reply.

Mediavenger was quietly enjoying a solo breakfast at one of his favorite casual morning haunts and couldn’t help but overhear the conversation from a booth away, especially after having wrongly politically pegged the older blue-collar white men and accordingly dreading that the subject of the new president would pop up.… Continue reading

Mainstream Media Miss the Point on Anthem Protests

November 18, 2016 by dave@davidalpha.net

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand for the National Anthem ignited an incendiary controversy that showed no sign of cooling until the debacle of the 2016 presidential election hosed down everything else.  Americans should still be horrified — not by Kaepernick’s behavior, but by the reactions of too many other Americans of torch-bearing villager mentality who clearly have forgotten the heart of the freedom that they somehow imagine is threatened by the absence of rote obeisance.… Continue reading

The Baby, the Bathwater and the Electoral College

November 12, 2016 by dave@davidalpha.net

The American people elected Hillary Clinton president this Tuesday, but the bloated, archaic shadow land called the Electoral College will meet next month to elect Donald Trump president instead.

This sad subversion of the will of the voters should be far more than a footnote in history, but what else can it be in a system that takes the direct will of the people away from them and hands it to a small, separate political body, something we do only, incredibly, when filling the highest office in the free world?… Continue reading
